5 Features to Add to your Closet Design

I recently shared a video of 5 features that I love about my closet to our social pages. For this post I want to dive into those 5 features! 2 of these are fun features to add jazz to my space, but 3 are functional and I’m so glad I added them.

Video of my 5 favorite features in my closet.

  1. Rug - I bought the rug in my closet on a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. I love added elements from my travels to decorate my home. It helps tell a story of what’s important to me and supports artists from communities that I visit. I specifically wanted a rug that would fit my closet to bring some warmth and flair to the room!

  2. Hanging Boot Rod - This is my 2nd favorite feature. It helps display my boots, maintains their shape, AND allows me to still be able to vaccum underneath them without having to pick them up. I had the rod installed when I designed my closet, but you can acheive this look with a shower tension rod as well. The boot clips are available from Amazon.

  3. Hat Shelf - I created a shorter shelf specifically to hold my hats. They slide in perfectly to this space and I don’t have to waste the full height of a regular shelf to store them.

  4. Chandelier - I’ve always wanted a closet with a chandelier. It adds some pizzaz to the closet and makes getting ready feel like a special occassion. I bought mine from Ikea but I’m sure there’s also some great thrift shop finds!

  5. Shelf Above Door Frame - This is my favorite functional part of my closet. It’s so great that I also added it to my pantry. The space above a doorframe is never used and why not? It’s a great place to store items that you don’t need to see when you walk into a space. I keep my backstock daily contact lens there as well as out of session items - a basket of gloves/hats in the summer - my swimsuit basket in the winter, etc. Definitely a design trend that I’m certain will take off!
